PETALING JAYA:
A picture showing the four Malaysian hostages kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf off the waters of Sabah earlier this month, has made its way to Facebook.

The picture shows four hostages squatting with one of them holding up a piece of paper with the message “Victor Troy” and “April 8, 2016” written on it, a news report in The Star Online said today.

The picture was posted on April 10 on a page believed to have been recently set up by the Abu Sayyaf group.

According to the report, people familiar with Abu Sayyaf say the name used for the Facebook page was most likely a fake one, though it seemed to be an attempt at communicating with the hostages’ family members and others.

The four hostages, Wong Teck Pang, 41; Wong Hung Song, 44; Wong Teck Chi, 39; and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21 were crewmen on a Malaysian cargo ship that had transported timber from Malaysia to Manila in the Philippines.

The kidnapped victims were taken away in a speed boat, while other crewmen on the boat, three Myanmar nationals and two Indonesians, were left behind.

Yesterday, it was reported that Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem met with the families of the four Sarawakians.
