UM student wins Tokoh Siswa award for online tuition class

PUTRAJAYA:
Engineering student Mifzal Salihin of Universiti Malaya has been crowned ‘Tokoh Siswa Kebangsaan’ after winning the Minister of Higher Education Award for creating an online tutoring class.

Mifzal, 22, a third-year mechanical engineering student, won RM3,000, a trophy, and a scholarship.

He won the award for his excellence in entrepreneurship by creating the tutoring site AfterKelas.com three years ago, with between 40 and 50 UM students involved.

“These are active tutors who teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics, earning a monthly income of between RM1,000 and RM1,500,” he said.

Mifzal, from Shah Alam, Selangor, said his ambition was to become a successful entrepreneur upon graduation.
