PETALING JAYA (NON-HALAL): With Christmas fast approaching, many Malaysians are undoubtedly making their plans for festive feasts with family and friends, and prowling for juicy promotions offered by restaurants and bars.
For the people of Petaling Jaya, there is much reason to be cheerful as there is a perfect place to welcome the Yuletide season, and it is called Curious Kitchen.
Located on the second floor of the Tropicana Avenue commercial hub, Curious Kitchen’s layout is divided into three sections. The air-conditioned indoor private event chamber, which can be reserved for big parties or corporate events has a large projector screen available for use.
The outside bar and the grill area, overlook lush greenery and allow diners to feast al fresco.

All that aside, it must be said that Curious Kitchen is the mecca of meat lovers with its wide selection of delicious proteins, which include pork, beef and chicken.
And mind you, this isn’t the place to expect just ordinary barbecued beef or roasted chicken, because the food here is nothing short of glorious.
Established in 2017 by best friends Andrew Lai and Mark Lee, Curious Kitchen started off as a meat supplier but went on to serve hungry customers with an assortment of cooked meat at its very own dining establishment.

For a light, healthy and tasty starter, call for a serving of Corn Elote, better known as Mexican street corn.
While the dish is typically served on the cob, Curious Kitchen’s version is presented in kernel form and drizzled with yoghurt, mayonnaise and butter.
The crunchy corn blends so well with the spicy chilli powder and tangy taste that it becomes a surprisingly addictive dish you will want to treat yourself to.

For another tasty vegetable dish, you can help yourself to a serving of Green Bean Casserole.
Baked in mushroom cream sauce, this delightful dish is as crunchy as it is savoury due to the presence of French onions fried to crispy perfection.

The Sweet Potato Mash is a fusion offering of Curious Kitchen, and despite how strange it may sound, it is certainly something for everyone to enjoy.
The sweet potato is light, fluffy and infused with coconut cream, which further enhances the sweetness, while a sprinkle of cinnamon tops off this dish beautifully.
It should also be mentioned that these three side dishes are part of Curious Kitchen’s Holiday Specials, and will only be available up to Jan 3 next year.
Also part of the Holiday Specials is a selection of Jolly Platters, which can feed a party of three to four. The Triple Joy is the highlight of these platters with its highly reasonable price of RM180, which will treat you to a lavish meal of Rosemary Roasted Chicken, Lemon Mustard Grilled Pork Loin and Smokey BBQ Beef Brisket.
The aforementioned vegetable dishes are also included in the platter, so there’s no question about how valuable this course is for its price.
The Rosemary Roasted Chicken, despite being a classic dish, is probably the most delicious piece of chicken that will ever grace your taste buds.
There’s something just perfect about it despite its simplicity, and the same can be said about the Lemon Mustard Grilled Pork Loin.
The Brisket also deserves some time in the spotlight due to just how generously meaty it is and how that distinctive smoky taste can be detected at the first bite.

Seasonal meals aside, you can give the Jack the Duck Salad a try, which features delicious slices of smoked duck breast.
Also included in the salad are slices of honey jackfruit, which lends a wonderfully contrasting sweetness to the robust taste of duck meat.

The Baja Fish Tacos are also a favourite with regulars here and it’s not difficult to see why. With a beer-battered halibut serving as the centrepiece of the dish, the flour tortillas are also filled with fresh slaw and a generous serving of chilli sour cream.
But, if you’re looking for something closer to home, Curious Kitchen has something Malaysian just for you.

The Iberico Hokkien Mee is served with homemade sambal, and the spicy add-on goes well with the thick and flavourful noodles.
However, no pork lover can visit Curious Kitchen without trying out the Iberico Pork Loin, which is the best pork dish that one can ever enjoy.

What makes Iberico different from regular cuts of pork is that the Iberico variant comes from free-range pigs in Spain that are raised in a hygienic and healthy manner.
Hence, their meat is of high quality and believed to lower cholesterol.

To end things on a sweet note, one must certainly try the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with a scoop of artisan vanilla ice-cream.
Enjoy this work of art by eating the pie together with the cold ice-cream, and rejoice at the unforgettable blend of savoury flavours in your mouth.
With all that done and digested, perhaps wash your meal down with an RM18 glass of Australian or Chilean wine, or go all the way with an entire bottle for RM78.
All in all, we highly recommend treating yourself and your loved ones to an unforgettable and valuable meal at Curious Kitchen – it’s a place where you can invite friends over for a round of drinks, or treat your family to a lavish feast. After all, it is Christmas, so why not?
