Today, Aug 1

  • ‘Bleach: Arrancar: Fall of the Espada’ (series)

As season 14 kicks off, the battle continues in Karakura, while Ichigo and his allies face more Arrancars in Hueco Mundo as they fight to save Orihime. Huh? An anime.

  • ‘Boruto: Naruto Next Generations’, season 4 (series)

Boruto and his friends continue their ninja missions, dealing with wild bird attacks, time travel, and a new enemy – the Mujina bandits. Another anime.

  • ‘Crank’ (film)

A hitman who has been poisoned learns that he can elude death if he keeps his adrenaline pumping as he races through the streets of Los Angeles. Jason Statham stars in this, well, heart-thumping thriller.

  • ‘Homerun’ (film)

In this heartwarming Singaporean drama, a boy must share his shoes with his sister after losing her only pair. Later, he joins a running race where the prize is a new pair of shoes!

  • ‘I’m Quitting Heroing’, season 1 (series)

After getting banished by the humans he saved, a powerful hero applies for a new job – with the very demon army he almost eradicated. Yet another anime.

  • ‘My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World’, season 1 (series)

A lowly and overworked corporate employee finds himself in a fantastical world where he quickly obtains potent powers without even realising it. Yet another anime again.

  • ‘Onimai: I’m Now Your Sister!’, season 1 (series)

A lazy gamer who hasn’t left the house in years must go back to school when his little sister’s science experiment gives him a confounding makeover. Yet yet another anime again.

  • ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ (film)

Master Splinter gets the four Ninja Turtles back into shape to defeat monsters running amok in New York in this animated adventure. FMT Lifestyle isn’t very sure which instalment of the franchise this is, but according to Netflix, it features the voices of Gillian Jacobs and Chris Evans.

‘The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten’, season 1 (series)

When slovenly Amane falls ill after giving his angelic neighbour Mahiru his umbrella in a rainstorm, she steps up to care for him and his messy apartment. No prizes for guessing whether this is another anime.

  • ‘TSUKIMICHI – Moonlit Fantasy’, season 1

A regular kid is sent to a magical alternate world to be a hero, but he’s swiftly banished to the far-off wastelands. Aaaaand we’re thankfully done with the anime.

  • ‘Finding Mr Destiny’ (film)

Gi-joon falls for Ji-woo, one of his match-matching clients, while he tries to find her supposed true love, Kim, somewhere in Korea. A romantic comedy.

  • ‘Untold’, volume 3 (series)

This documentary anthology series returns! Premiering over four weeks and comprising three films and four episodes, “Untold” pulls back the curtain on some of sports’ most infamous events, including doping scandals, boxing’s most hated heel, and a football star under scrutiny.

 

Tomorrow, Aug 2

  • ‘Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food’ (documentary)

Through revealing interviews with experts and victims’ families, this gripping documentary examines the problem of deadly foodborne illnesses in the United States.

 

  • ‘Satan’s Curse’ (film)

On the run from a murderous loan shark, a businessman hides out in his best friend’s secluded hotel – but soon uncovers its sinister secrets. This Malaysian-made horror comedy stars Farid Kamil and Jalaluddin Hassan.

Thursday, Aug 3

  • ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’, season 2 part 2 (series)

As Lisa’s trial approaches, Mickey faces doubts, setbacks and unexpected revelations. Meanwhile, Lorna and Cisco plan for their big day, while Izzy makes big moves. This popular series is based on the books by Michael Connelly.

  • ‘Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead’ (film)

Bullied by his boss and resigned to working around the clock, he’s nothing more than a corporate drone – but all it takes is a zombie outbreak for him to finally feel alive! Check out this live-action remake of a popular manga and – you guessed it – anime.
