PETALING JAYA:
There was a time when a visit to Hungry Bacon in Damansara Utama here required a little strategy.

Do you go for the sticky, fall-off-the-bone ribs? The smoky pork shoulder chop? The nasi kerabu babi percik that somehow manages to feel both familiar and surprising at the same time?

With a menu packed with crowd favourites, choosing just one dish often felt like the hardest part of the meal.

Now imagine walking into the restaurant and being greeted not by a menu but by a buffet spread. Crisp salads piled high with fresh toppings. Creamy pastas waiting to be twirled onto a plate.

Slow-cooked pork dishes sitting alongside hearty chicken mains, alongside comforting carbs and colourful vegetables. Not forgetting a dessert station tempting diners before they have even finished their first plate.

Hungry Bacon’s new all-you-can-eat buffet, priced at RM60 per person for a 90-minute dining session, offers just that.

This might surprise regulars of the Uptown eatery, which built its reputation on hearty à la carte pork dishes and chef-driven creations by owner Timothy Sebastian.

Instead of committing to a single main course, diners can enjoy a little of everything while having the option of ordering three of the restaurant’s signature dishes and two drinks as add-ons.

The salad station offers more than just a token nod to veggies. Alongside crisp lettuce and an assortment of toppings and dressings, there are a few prepared salads worth loading onto your plate.

The potato salad stands out, with hearty chunks still wearing their skins for added texture and flavour.

The roasted sweet potato is an instant favourite. Reminiscent of the candied yams often served during American Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, it is sweet and comforting, with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice, topped with a thin layer of melted marshmallow.

The mains are where Chef Tim’s expertise really shines. The tandoori chicken is exceptionally juicy, carrying deep flavour from a well-developed marinade that has clearly been given time to work its magic.

Every bite is well-seasoned and fragrant, making it one of the standout dishes on the buffet line.

For something with more punch, the Nashville-style fried chicken delivers. Crunchy, spicy and slightly tangy, it packs enough heat to keep things interesting without sacrificing flavour.

Of course, no visit to Hungry Bacon would feel complete without pork. The roast US pork shoulder and loin chops remain centrepieces of the spread – and for good reason.

Brined for 48 hours before cooking, the pork shoulder is  remarkably tender and juicy. Both cuts are among the first items to disappear, so grab your portion quickly!

Of course, it’s always worth saving room for dessert. The sweet selection punches above its weight, with silky chocolate mousse, comforting bread pudding, rich brownies and buttery blondies, to name a few. A fitting finale.

Meanwhile, those craving some of Hungry Bacon’s greatest hits need not worry. Five signature items from the original menu remain as add-ons, including the Ultimate Nachos, wild boar peratal, and salted egg fish skin.

Refreshing beverages such as the restaurant’s Assam the Bois and iced lemon tea are also available to complement your feast.
