Opened in 1978 by Goh Boh Ann and his wife Wee Soi Wah, their array of baked goods has evolved with the times, but it is the quality and taste of their products that have earned them the loyalty of their customers over the years.
According to Goh, they sold only freshly made buns with red bean and coconut fillings when they first opened. But these items were eventually phased out “when many other bakeries started selling them and it got pretty competitive”.

Other offerings – such as their butter, marble, chocolate and coffee cakes, cream puffs, and assortment of tarts – have remained popular through the decades with customers, who come from all over the Klang Valley including Shah Alam, Subang Jaya and Cheras.
“We’ve been using the same recipes to make them over the years,” said Goh, adding, however, that they cut down on sugar following requests from health-conscious customers.
This year, burnt cheesecake was added to the menu.

Goh told FMT that opening a bakery had not originally been on his mind as he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Hainanese cook.
“But I decided to venture into baking as I wanted to learn something new,” he said, pointing out that his wife comes from a family of bakers.

Bakery Cake House’s golden-brown crispy cream puffs are baked fresh daily and are hugely popular. The puffs come with three different fillings: fresh cream, custard and chocolate.

Another well-loved item is the egg tart, which has a smooth, creamy and sweet filling that pairs perfectly with its crumbly crust.
Beware of the mini blueberry cheese tarts, though, as they can be addictive!

Meanwhile, the coconut tart comes with a filling that is not too sweet. It is best enjoyed with a hot cup of coffee.

The mini fruit tarts are equally popular and feature longan, peach and cherry that are carefully laid on a bed of fresh cream and topped with kiwi jam.

Another crowd-pleaser is the light and fluffy pandan sponge cake that effuses the aroma of fragrant screw pine leaf.

Bakery Cake House also offers gift boxes for weddings and other special occasions, and takes orders for customised cakes.

Having operated the bakery for over four decades, Goh and his wife have witnessed some of their customers grow from children to adults.
“When they first started coming to our shop, they came with their parents. Now they bring their children along,” Goh said happily.
