SUBANG JAYA:
It’s no secret many Malaysians are fond of seafood, to the point that they’re willing to make pilgrimages to coastal areas to feast on fish fresh from the sea.

However, with the rising prices of food products, some seafood lovers are no doubt considering cutting back on this indulgence.

But what if there was a way to enjoy delicious, fresh seafood without breaking the bank? And what if you did not need to travel outstation to enjoy seafood that tastes as fresh as though it was fished out of the water moments earlier?

Well, there’s one such place in Bandar Sunway that offers both premium and affordable seafood under one roof.

Yamaguchi Fish Market has a name inspired by a real-life Japanese prefecture and indeed, many of its offerings have a certain flair from the Far East.

However, it is not all sushi here as the menu also offers classic Chinese-inspired seafood dishes that you may recognise from elsewhere.

The Bandar Sunway branch is the newest and second branch of the seafood establishment, having opened on April 1, with its first outlet located in Kuala Lumpur.

Interestingly, this particular outlet is not a standalone restaurant, as the Yamaguchi Fish Market shares a venue with two other eateries.

This should not be an issue though as the dining environment exudes cosiness, and is perfect for big dining parties of family and friends.

But enough about that. What about the food?

The restaurant prides itself for offering diners choices ranging from affordable but tasty dishes to pricey but premium delicacies.

Fond of clams? Fond of food with a spicy kick to it? Then why not marry the two with the Spicy Lala Pot, featuring lala simmering in a hot and spicy soup. Brought in from Sabah, the lala has a sweet and fresh taste, making the search for edible flesh ever more addictive.

Additionally, until June 30, diners will enjoy juicy prawns for free with each order, so there’s no time to waste!

If you’re a fan of sushi, you’ll be pleased to know that the Salmon Sashimi – the all-classic Japanese sushi option – comes highly recommended here, and for good reason!

If you’ve been disappointed before by restaurants serving you thin, nearly dry flakes of salmon, then you’ll love the fat, juicy slabs you get her instead. With a pinch of wasabi and a touch of soy sauce, there is no way you won’t find yourself gorging on this treat.

And if you’re the kind who simply cannot eat enough sushi, order the Salmon Sushi Platter that consists of eight premium sushi offerings for a reasonable RM38. Truly a crowd favourite, it also makes for a picturesque dish.

Baked in an aromatic salt, the Flaming Salt Baked Crab is quite the sight to behold. (Moganraj Villavan @ FMT Lifestyle)

What’s the point of visiting a seafood restaurant if you don’t treat yourself to a crab fiesta? The Flaming Salt Baked Crab is a good place to start.

At the centre of this dish is a big juicy crab served in aromatic salt, baked to perfection so that every thick morsel of meat is packed with flavour. Due to its salt content, this dish is best enjoyed with rice or perhaps a bowl of soup.

Filling and savoury, the Sang Har Sang Mee comes together with a few juicy and succulent prawns to savour. (Moganraj Villavan @ FMT Lifestyle)

Last but not least is the Sang Har Sang Mee with stringy noodles dunked in gravy and served with big, juicy prawns.

Savoury and filling, this is a dish best shared as the portion is huge, though you might be tempted to keep the prawns all to yourself.

Speaking to FMT, outlet manager Alvin Rogers Charles said that customers can expect fresh seafood of good quality served daily at the Yamaguchi Fish Market.

“We want our customers to have something fresh and different,” he told FMT. “So, we’re offering something premium as well as something affordable.”

With the best of both worlds available at the Yamaguchi Fish Market, there’s no time like now to drop by for some delectable and affordable seafood.
