Old-timers would have fond memories of his stall where he would cook his mee goreng, and his usual Indian breakfast such as roti canai, thosai and all the hot drinks.
In 2005, he opened his own restaurant – Mani Curry House. Apart from being a culinary wizard, Uncle Mani was also an entrepreneur, dabbling in other ventures such as construction and engineering, and farming.
However, he passed away in July last year due to a heart attack. A huge portrait of him hangs on the walls to remember the legacy he has left behind.
Although he is no more, business is on as usual on a Thursday afternoon with the cooks whipping up delicious meals such as their signature mee goreng, murtabak and even home-made burgers.
If you head there during lunch time, you’ll be spoilt for choice for their dishes – chicken varuval, fried chicken, biryani rice, fried fish are among their top-selling dishes.
And although it’s a Thursday afternoon, a steady stream of customers are already entering the restaurant to order their lunch meals.
According to the restaurant’s consultant Dominic Belavendram, 55, the restaurant has retained their recipe of their signature mee-goreng.

“People would come all the way from other states just to sample the mee goreng. It has been our best-selling dish since it’s simply delicious.
“Many have even sung praises about the noodles as it’s one-of-a-kind as compared to the other mee goreng one has tried from other stalls,” he told FMT.
FMT also sampled the noodles together with the restaurant’s chicken murtabak, chicken varuval and roti pisang meleleh.
True enough, there was something extra special about the noodles when it’s eaten – the spiciness of the noodles together with the fried chicken made an excellent combination.
For RM7 a plate, the plate of noodles was definitely a steal as it is cheap and affordable for many.
Not just that, it’s also a filling dish as there’s just too much to savour in one plate – from fried chicken, tofu to the vegetables.
If you like to fuel up on protein, you could opt for a plate of chicken varuval. The tenderness of the chicken together with its spiciness adds an extra kick when paired with the noodles.

Not in the mood for noodles? Then try the restaurant’s murtabak ayam. Don’t be surprised if you get a huge portion of the meal – as compared to the usual small-sized murtabak in the night market.

Filled with a generous amount of chicken pieces, one of them will definitely keep you full and satisfied with its portion.
According to Dominic, the meal is wholesome that it can be a meal of its own, which is true indeed.
Craving for mutton murtabak? The restaurant also serves it if you prefer red meat.
For something light and sweet for the tummy, the roti pisang is a must-try. What makes this dish special are its extra layers together with added sliced bananas.

“What we pride ourselves on is quality food and friendly service. Over the years, we have added more food on our menu such as the western food to cater to many,” Dominic said.
Other food on the menu include naan, and all the different types of rotis. The restaurant also does catering for occasions such as house parties or for events
