KUALA NERANG:
The Kedah Council of Regency has given its consent to the new state executive council line-up scheduled to be sworn in on Monday.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the proposed line-up was presented to the council at the 240th meeting of the Conference of Rulers in Kuala Lumpur last Wednesday.

“However, the line-up will only be announced on February 22 (Monday), so you have to wait until that day,” he told reporters after visiting the fire-ravaged Sekolah Menengah Agama As-Siddiqiah at Padang Kerasak, Naka, here today.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place before the chairman of the Kedah Council of Regency, Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, at Istana Anak Bukit, here.

On the fire incident, Ahmad Bashah said he would ask state-owned government-linked companies (GLCs) to help rebuild the religious school.

“The state government has provided immediate assistance of RM100,000, while other parties have also extended a helping hand for the purpose.”

Ahmad Bashah said what was more important was that the students could continue their studies as usual.

During the fire that broke out at 5pm on Sunday, several buildings, including the students’ hostel, were destroyed, involving losses of more than RM1 million.

All 200 students were unhurt.
