Saying the Islamic party was losing out on the people’s movement, Husam criticised his president, Abdul Hadi Awang, for not actively opposing Najib’s leadership.
“I am puzzled with my party. My president (Abdul Hadi) says he wants Najib to stay until (the next) general election, lest chaos would erupt.
“When Mahathir (Mohamad) quit, there was no chaos. When Pak Lah (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) quit, there was no chaos. What is so special about Najib? Is he better than Mahathir?,” he asked a 1,000 strong crowd at the “Save Malaysia” movement’s first stop on its nationwide tour at the Ampang Jaya City Council field last night.
The former PAS vice-president was the sole PAS leader to turn up for the event, alongside Pakatan Harapan leaders and former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Salor Assemblyman also accused Hadi of having wanted to form the state government with Umno during the Selangor Menteri Besar crisis in 2014.
Hadi had on many occasions stated that he would stand by his party’s “opposition through advice” stance towards Umno and had even said he would support Umno if it “returned to Islam”.
Husam’s fate in PAS is under review by the party’s disciplinary body, after he was booked for criticising the party’s leadership and the Kelantan state government over logging concessions.
