Mohamad said the rally was never meant to be as big as the Bersih 4.0 rally in mid-2015, as the party only spent a week in planning.
“Personally, I am satisfied. The turnout was what we expected,” he said at a press conference in Wisma Amanah Negara today.
Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad claimed that there was a crowd of 10,000 during the early stages of the rally. “Around noon it looked as if there were about 10,000 people. But maybe it was because of the hot weather, people couldn’t stay until the end,” he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that about 3,000 protesters assembled at various spots of the city, and converged on Dataran Merdeka to protest against the imposition of the Goods and Services Tax and to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad also made an appearance towards the end the rally, as he had done at Bersih, to continue his campaign against Najib.
Mat Sabu said that Amanah, along with other Opposition parties and Dr Mahathir would “keep fighting until Barisan Nasional falls.”
When asked what plans were in place for the day when BN fell, Mat Sabu merely said they “will start planning when the time comes.”
