KUALA LUMPUR:
A piece of debris found on the Mauritian Island of Rodrigues is currently being transported to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Mauritius.

Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Director-General Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said DCA was in communication with the CAA of Mauritius and all efforts were being made to retrieve the debris.

“The debris is suspected to be an interior part of an aircraft.

“However, we will not be able to confirm that it is from MH370 until detailed tests and analysis are conducted,” he said in a statement here today.

Azharuddin said Malaysia, as the lead investigator for the MH370 Safety Investigations, had requested for images of the debris to be made available for further investigation and verification purposes.

Yesterday, MH370 Independent Group (IG) expert Don Thompson said a small piece believed to be from inside the cabin of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 had been found on an island in Mauritius, east of Africa.

Thompson said he had seen the photographs of the part which appeared to be matching the bulkhead of a MAS 777 business class cabin.

On March 8, 2014, a Beijing-bound MAS Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with 239 passengers and crew members on board disappeared from the radar about 49 minutes after taking off from the KL International Airport at 12.41 am.

The search for the missing plane is still being conducted in the southern Indian Ocean.
