According to the Rembau MP, he would be more comfortable serving the rakyat and working in the political arena without any title.
In a press interview, Khairy said he felt he was still too young to receive a datukship, stating that he hasn’t contributed enough to the country yet.
“If possible, as long as I am in politics and still serving, it is better I serve without any titles. I am the Minister of Youth and Sports, youth chief, I feel awkward if I have a title….,” he told Harian Metro.
“It (the title) is too special, I am of the opinion that those who receive it must be qualified to do so, and I feel I am not qualified.
“Because my career as a minister only began when I was 40 and it has only been three years, I don’t see what I have done in the past three years (as a Minister) or as a parliamentarian, is enough for me to be given a datukship,” he added.
Khairy expressed his feelings that the culture of chasing titles was not a good example for the younger generation.
“I see many chasing titles, and I feel they are too young and have not done much in their careers to qualify them for the titles. It has become a culture of chasing titles, to me this is not a good thing for us to portray to the younger generation,” he said.
