PETALING JAYA: Charles Santiago of the DAP has resigned himself to having only one day to campaign in Sarawak in the run-up to the state election, after being told by immigration authorities he has to leave tomorrow.

The unexpected news was delivered to the MP for Klang after he landed in Bintulu today.

Speaking to FMT, Santiago explained that after arriving at Bintulu Airport at 9am, an officer at the Immigration Department told him he had to leave the state the very next day.

“I was not given any prior information nor warning and only found out today at the processing centre,” he said.

“When I questioned a senior officer, his reply was that there was nothing he could do and that he had been given instructions from above.”

Santiago however was the only one in the group comprising of several other party members from DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, who was ordered to leave tomorrow.

When asked what his next course of action would be, Santiago said: “Campaign today and leave tomorrow.”

Apart from Santiago, PKR Deputy President Azmin Ali and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng, also had their stay in the state shortened.

It was recently reported however that Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem would likely consider extending Azmin and Guan Eng’s stay if a formal request was put in.
