Ramasamy: One wrong move may bring Umno to S’wak

GEORGE TOWN:
Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem may be a “closet anti-Umno man” as he wishes to curtail its race politics from flourishing in the state, says Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy.

He said Adenan’s current friendliness with Umno was just a show to prevent strained ties during the state election.

“By doing this, he can demonstrate to federal politicians that he is a good and reliable leader. And that he can be counted upon.

“At the same time, Adenan wants to forestall any move of Umno entering Sarawak. But how is he going to do it?

“Adenan is not a naive politician and is aware of the implications to Sarawak politics if Umno makes an entry into the state, as was the case in Sabah,” Ramasamy said in a statement today.

He added that Sarawak’s barring of Opposition leaders was actually an attempt to block Umno politicians from entering as well.

“Barring Opposition leaders from coming into Sarawak is a mere demonstration of Adenan’s loyalty to Umno politicians.

“However, his loyalty cannot be reduced to the fact that he is an agent or lackey of Umno.

“Adenan is a more complex politician than what others think of him.”

“Adenan might not really worry about Pakatan Harapan or the coalition’s brand of politics. He considers them as a temporary problem which can be dealt with.

“The real and future problem for Sarawak comes from political parties like Umno.

“The experience of Sabah was bad enough and this is what concerns Adenan. He might not show it but it is there.

“Under the present circumstances, he has no choice but to navigate in the choppy waters carefully.

“One wrong move might bring Umno to Sarawak.”
