GEORGE TOWN:
Four disused godowns in the Victoria Street area will be converted into rentable areas for future animation studios, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today.

He said Penang’s traditional traders, too, would be offered spaces at the renovated warehouses at subsidised and reasonable rates.

“Besides turning it into one of Penang’s Creative Animation Triggers, we would also like to offer traditional craftsmen space inside.

“We are repurposing the godowns for a good reason, it will have traditional and modern elements when complete,” Lim told a press conference today.

The four warehouses, at the corner of Victoria St and Acheen St Ghaut, is situated on a 13,168 sq ft parcel of land.

After renovation, it would have 21,548 sq ft of floor space.

Lim said state investment arm Penang Development Corporation will call for a tender to renovate the godowns in July.

The project is estimated to cost nearly RM10 million.
