The MCA central working committee member told FMT that contrary to former Federal minister, Zainuddin Maidin’s claims that MCA, MIC and Gerakan were in their dying throes, the component parties were in fact, still alive and growing in strength under the BN umbrella.
“Zainuddin is trying to be ‘batu api’ (instigator) to serve the cause of his political masters.”
Ti, however, acknowledged that in GE 13, all component parties which stood under the BN suffered losses due to several factors.
For one, in Chinese majority areas, the DAP used Chinese chauvinism to attract the bulk of Chinese votes, while in mixed urban seats with Malay majorities, PKR used Malay candidates against Chinese or Indian BN candidates.
“This resulted in non-Malay candidates losing their seats due to racial sentiments and prevailing Chinese anti-establishment feelings.”
He said Zainuddin, who is better known as Zam, had oversimplified the political situation and this showed he was trapped in his “Chinese against Malay” sentiment.
“Either that, or Zam is just a “fox” trying to fish votes in troubled waters or trying to create ill-will among BN parties, who are now united in facing the opposition onslaught from many corners.”
Ti said the fact was that the opposition was in tatters, but the BN was slowly, but surely overcoming the challenges faced by the country, such as the economic downturn and weak ringgit.
“To quote former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad: ‘All in all, BN will survive as we have established a political tradition of working together towards holding the plural society of the nation intact together.’
“Zam knows this and he is trying very hard to break BN by using his divisive mind and tricks, but it just won’t work,” said Ti.
In a recent posting on his Zamkata blog, Zainuddin said Umno was still “blind” and in denial that MCA, MIC and Gerakan were just waiting to be buried in the GE14.
He said Prime Minister Najib Razak did not realise that the DAP was replacing MCA as the representative of the Chinese even though the DAP portrayed itself as a multi-racial party.
