Its President and Group CEO Azmi Abdul Aziz said the rides would be offered on the Kelana Jaya Line only from Tuesday to Thursday next week.
Customers travelling between Kelana Jaya line and other lines (Sri Petaling/Ampang/Monorail BRT) would only need to pay the base fare and for the distance travelled beyond the Kelana Jaya line.
He told a press conference the “glitch” happened because of a disturbance in the power supply in the train heading from Gombak to Putra Heights, which in turn affected the train’s ventilation system.
“The passengers were evacuated for their safety, to the nearest stations, Sri Rampai and Damai.
“The decision (to evacuate) was made by the Kelana Jaya Line operators,” Azmi said.
Earlier this morning, it was reported that an LRT train had come to a complete stop during the office rush hour traffic and a downpour.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9.10am, resulting in passengers being stuck in the coach for 20 minutes. They were then ushered out of the train by LRT staff, and were instructed to walk on the track to the nearest station, that is Damai .
Service resumed at 11.45am.
This is the second time in three days that LRT services have broken down, with both incidents occurring on the Kelana Jaya Line. On Wednesday, the LRT service was disrupted following a glitch in the signalling and communications system.
The glitch forced Rapid KL to “power down the line at several stations” in order to correct the problem.
