Wanita Gerakan leader Tan Lian Hoe, speaking at the Gerakan party conference, also urged party members to stop in-fighting and internal sabotage.
She said leaders of component parties in the Barisan Nasional must respect and help one another.
Tan added that as a big family, it is important to protect the relationship between component parties.
“Disputes within the family will give the Opposition more opportunities to bring us all down. Do not insult or speak sarcastically, or act in arrogance to assume oneself as a “big brother,” she was quoted as saying.
She said issues that have been consistently raised by the Opposition must be resolved before the general election.
“1Malaysia Development Berhad and corruption issues will be used by the Opposition to fish for votes. Although the issue of the government owned-1MDB, which was given capital funds of RM1mil by the government, is now coming to a close, it must still be given serious attention,” she said.
Tan urged the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to pick up the pace of their investigations to ensure that culprits face justice before the elections.
