Now, Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) is wondering how it was that “foreigners and prostitutes” were able to reside in a low-medium-cost apartment block in Gelugor which grabbed headlines recently, following expensive vehicles being parked at its basement.
PCM Vice-President Huan Cheng Guan said one of the residents, who was troubled by the type of occupants there, had tipped him off about the alleged vice den mushrooming there.
“How can family members stomach living there, among unsavoury characters?
“More importantly, how do this kind of characters get a place at an affordable housing unit?” he said at a press conference at Northam Road here today.
Earlier, Huan handed over documents and a thumb drive, related to “ineligible applicants” staying in the apartments, to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Last Thursday, PCM revealed that the wealthy were occupying apartment units reserved for first-time homebuyers earning a combined salary of RM3,500.
The Penang Government said it was considering repossessing units that had been obtained using false information and also pressing criminal charges against the errant parties involved.
Huan claimed this occurred because the vetting system was flawed, allowing the rich to purchase the apartment units, priced at RM72,500 each.
He also revealed that some of these homeowners even “dared” to rent out their units, despite their agreements clearly barring them from doing so.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. Just stay tuned and I will reveal more issues pertaining to public housing in time to come,” Huan said.
Meanwhile, he urged those who had information on the misuse of public housing to email [email protected].
