
He said it was imperative for the federal government to expedite five high-impact flood mitigation plans (FMP), worth RM847 million, applied for by Penang due to the heavy rain experienced in the state of late.
Lim, in a statement today, hoped the federal government will consider Penang’s contribution of RM6.5 billion to RM7 billion in the form of taxes and excise duties yearly to the national coffers.
Lim also revealed that besides the RM150 million allocation for the Sungai Pinang FMP, confirmed at the recent sitting of the Dewan Rakyat , two other projects worth RM54.6 million were also being carried out by the federal government.
According to a written reply by Prime Minister Najib Razak to Lim at the Dewan Rakyat, Najib said the North and South Seberang Prai Districts had received separate funding for FMP.
These projects are being carried out near Nibong Tebal and Tasek Gelugor.
One of the projects under the 10th Malaysia Plan extension was being undertaken at the Sungai Kerian river basin, near Nibong Tebal. About 90 per cent of the RM46 million project has been completed as of now.
The FMP at Tasek Gelugor, Butterworth, costs RM8.6 million. A pump station is being built at Sungai Pengkalan Machang there and is 92 per cent complete.
