Police probe link between Kelantan bomb makers and IS

Inspector-General of Police remains tight-lipped however about the possible link to the terror group as investigations are still in the early stages.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Police are investigating if the six suspects arrested with bomb-making tools in Kelantan on Sunday are linked to militant group Islamic State (IS).

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said his team was trying to ascertain if there was a link between the six and IS although he did not elaborate.

On Sunday police arrested six men, aged between 30 and 40 in separate raids in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.

The raiding parties also seized wires and batteries believed to be components in making bombs.

Kelantan police chief Ab Rahman Ismail told FMT however that it was too early to reveal the findings as investigations had only just started.

He however, did not rule out the possibility of an IS link.

This is the second case reported in the past week.

On January 12, a police team arrested a bomb-making specialist and his girlfriend in Penang.

Sources, however, revealed that the couple were not linked to the terror group.

“It was more gangsterism-related,” a source said, referring to the unsubstantiated amount of drugs, drug paraphenalia and four homemade pipe bombs that were retrieved from the suspects’ rented house at Taman Minamah, Nibong Tebal.
