Flood situation in Johor improves

The number of flood relief centres in Johor has come down from 66 to 57.

The flood situation in Johor continues to show improvement as the number of flood victims has dropped from 5,964 to 4,834 as at 9.30pm today.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ayub Rahmat, in a statement, said more families are returning to their homes.

In Segamat, there are 2,908 victims (746 families) at 40 evacuation centres, while in Tangkak, there are 1,512 victims (409 families) seeking refuge at 11 evacuation centres.

In Kluang, there are only nine flood victims (three families) at an evacuation centre while in Muar, there are 405 victims (113 families) seeking refuge at six evacuation centres.

The relief centres in Segamat, Tangkak, Kluang and Muar still remain open.

The number of centres in Johor has decreased from 66 to 57.

In Kelantan, the flood situation has worsened with the number of flood victims increasing from 360 this afternoon to 1,218 as of 9pm today.

According to the Welfare Department’s InfoBanjir, a total of 372 children, 412 women and 25 babies have been placed in 14 relief centres in Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Gua Musang and Jeli.

Pahang still continues to record the highest number of victims with 6,778 people.

A total of 1,952 children, 2,296 women and 185 babies are at 110 relief centres in Temerloh, Maran, Rompin, Pekan, Bera, Raub Jerantu and Lipis.

In Perak, nine relief centres remain open. There are 155 children, 184 women and 17 babies at nine relief centres in Kinta, Larut Matang, Selama, Manjung and Hilir Perak.

In Selangor, there are 140 children, 110 women and 18 babies at three relief centres in Sabak Bernam.
