
In congratulating Jamilah, Aziz told a press conference at his office yesterday: “There is no sense of disappointment or envy, as she is also our family, and we hold on to our family’s strong ties to continue our father’s aspirations.”
The Borneo Post quoted him as saying he would give his full support to his stepmother to ensure a BN victory so that his late father’s legacy could continue.
He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg for his willingness to negotiate and discuss matters pertaining to the candidacy.
“The chief minister has met with my sisters and I as well as our other family members personally in regard to this matter.
“We humbly accept and support the decision by the chief minister on fielding Datin Patinggi Jamilah Anu as the BN candidate for the Tanjong Datu by-election,” The Borneo Post quoted him as saying.
Aziz denied a news report published by The Borneo Post that he was recently seen on the ground canvassing for support for himself to be the BN candidate for the Tanjong Datu seat.
Adenan was previously married to the sister of his predecessor Abdul Taib Mahmud, now the Sarawak Governor. Aziz is the child from that marriage.
Aziz, 45, and Adenan’s son with Jamilah, Azizul Annuar, 26, had earlier been mentioned as potential candidates.
