In jest, Teng told Penangites to keep calm and let FT Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor “dream” about his vision. Adnan, also known popularly as Ku Nan, had mooted the idea recently.
“Let him dream. He has a vision of FTs being given a lot of funding.
“I would like to suggest to Adnan: why don’t you turn the whole of Malaysia into an FT? That way, everybody will get more funding,” Teng, who is also Penang Gerakan chief, told FMT.
Adnan had told business radio station BFM89.9 that he was considering making Penang, Langkawi and parts of Malacca as FTs. He said this would ensure adequate funding and more.
State MCA chief Tan Teik Cheng said Penang must remain a state, not an FT.
“We at Penang MCA totally disagree with Tengku’s suggestion,” he said when contacted.
