“Whether we want to proceed with the case or not, we need to refer to the AGC for further instructions. That is the law,” he told reporters today after attending a police ceremony at Bukit Aman here where police received new Kia cars.
Khalid was commenting on a news report yesterday quoting Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s parliamentary reply to Pokok Sena MP Mafduz Omar, on whether police had completed their probe into Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun’s police report stating that former senior government officers were involved in a conspiracy to topple the prime minister.
Zahid told the Dewan Rakyat that investigations into former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Ghani Patail had been completed.
“The findings were submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Nov 29 last year for further directive and study by the deputy public prosecutor,” Zahid said.
Khalid added it was the police’s job to investigate reports filed by the complainants.
“Either we or the AGC will announce the outcome of the case,” he said.
In a police report filed last July, Khairul claimed that Zeti, Gani and Abu Kassim had provided confidential information to foreign agencies, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Previously, Bernama reported Khalid as saying police had called off the investigation because the police report by Khairul, who is also known as “Azwanbro”, was based on hearsay.
