“I’m glad I do not have to worry about my daughter’s education expenses now,” the first winner, a food trader in Selangor, told The Star daily.
The 49-year-old, who attributes the win to his ancestors in conjunction with Qing Ming, was one of three lucky people who won the RM17.1 million jackpot on March 25, the report said.
The Qing Ming Festival, that usually falls on April 4 or 5, is when the Chinese visit columbaria, graves or burial grounds to pray to their ancestors.
According to the daily, he and the second winner took home winnings amounting to RM8,515,433.45 each. The remaining RM89,166.85 was won by a Sabahan.
The second winner, a 64-year-old retiree also from Selangor, told the paper that his family planned to use the money to settle their house and car loans, pay their medical bills and go for a vacation.
He added that he had won by betting on his neighbour’s new car numbers.
“I’ve never won anything from my own car numbers. So, I decided to bet on my neighbour’s new car numbers,” he was quoted as saying.
