PETALING JAYA: PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan is staying out of the vice-president’s race in the upcoming party muktamar, stating the current make-up of leaders would be the winning combo for the 14th general election (GE14).
Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru MP, said he would also avoid contesting any working committee posts, to give way to fresh blood in the party.
“I am ready to be appointed by the leadership in any position the president (Abdul Hadi Awang) deems fit. Insya Allah, I will give my best.
“I am confident the current leadership can bring PAS to a bright future, especially for GE14,” he said in a statement today.
Takiyuddin has been PAS secretary-general since the party elections two years ago.
Party president Hadi and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man have been returned unopposed to their positions.
The three incumbent vice-presidents, Iskandar Abdul Samad, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and Idris Ahmad, will defend their positions.
Party information chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi is expected to go for the vice-president’s post.
The muktamar, or the general congress, will be held in Kota Sarang Semut, Alor Setar, Kedah, next weekend.
