Prasarana urges RapidKL card holders to change to new cards fast

With only two weeks left to make the switch and enjoy seamless travel, only 35% of cardholders have taken the initiative so far.

KUALA LUMPUR: With less than two weeks to go before the current MyRapid card ceases to function, only 35% of the estimated 300,000 holders of RapidKL cards have changed their cards and migrated to the new RapidKL Touch ’n Go (TnG) platform.

As such, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) Group Communication and Strategic Marketing Development head Lim Jin Aun today repeated the call to all RapidKL card holders to migrate their cards as soon as possible in order to allow seamless travel between the new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line and other Rapid KL rail and bus networks as the usage of the current MyRapid card would cease after July 15.

Currently, MyRapid cards, which are not TnG compliant, cannot be used for the MRT as they are not compatible with the latest ticketing system procured for the MRT project.

Speaking to reporters after a walkabout session at the Central Market and Subang Jaya concession card migration centres here today, Lim noted that 8,000 cards needed to be processed daily before the deadline so that no card holder would be left out.

“The migration or exchange of MyRapid cards to the new platform is necessary to enable cardholders to travel seamlessly between the Rapid KL bus, monorail, BRT and LRT networks and the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT Line, the Phase 2 of which is scheduled to be officially opened on July 17,” he said.

For the normal MyRapid cards, customers can change their cards at all Rapid KL Customer Service Offices at LRT, Monorail and bus rapid transit (BRT) stations, except at the Abdullah Hukum LRT Station.

The migration exercise can be done during the operational hours of the stations and is free.

However, the replacement of concession cards, which will allow senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities to enjoy discounts, can only be done at the concession card counter at the Pasar Seni bus hub, Subang Jaya LRT station, Awan Besar LRT station and Sri Rampai LRT station, as it requires cardholders to fill in the relevant forms and to have their photos taken for identification.

Meanwhile, the concession card counter at Central Market was seen crowded with people waiting for their turn to change the cards.

Mohd Akmal Rosli, 24, said he had waited nearly two hours at the counter in order to exchange his RapidKL card to the new version.

He suggested that Prasarana open more concession card counters to facilitate the migration process as the dateline was approaching.

The situation, however was different at the Subang Jaya concession card counter as there were only a few people queuing to get their new cards.

Mohd Hamdan Ismail, 24, was able to obtain his concession card within 10 minutes.

Card users who also subscribe to the Smart 7, Smart 30 and MyRapid Bus 30 packages can still enjoy the same benefits with the new MyRapid TnG cards.
