Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) said those holding the MyRapid concession cards should go to other stations to avoid long queues at the Pasar Seni bus hub.
Prasarana president and chief executive officer Azmi Abdul Aziz said the large numbers focusing on just one station had resulted in congestion there.
“We have stated at the station (Pasar Seni) that there are other venues for you to go change your concession cards to new ones,” he told the media at the Prasarana Raya open house here today.
Azmi was responding to recent complaints from the public regarding long queues to change the concession cards.
“They have to do verification to get their new cards. That’s why the process takes a bit longer.”
Besides the Pasar Seni bus hub, these concession cards can be replaced at three other locations, namely the Subang Jaya LRT station, Awan Besar LRT station and Sri Rampai LRT station.
Prasarana data shows that currently, there are more than 60,000 holders of the MyRapid concession card, meant for senior citizens, disabled persons and students.
A 50% discount is given to MyRapid TnG concession card holders. This compares to the normal MyRapid TnG cards whose holders enjoy a 20% discount on all routes at anytime.
Azmi said an upgrade to the online system would be introduced later for a more seamless card application, like in developed countries such as China and the United Kingdom.
London has already been using an online system for its travel pass, known as the Oyster Card, to provide better services for their customers to apply for travel passes, manage their accounts and top up credit.
“We have to develop in stages. We want everybody to use the card, then we will upgrade,” he said.
The new MyRapid TnG MyRapid card is to accommodate integration in the ticketing systems between the LRT and MRT lines, in view of the launch of the MRT Sungei Buloh-Kajang (MRT-SBK) second phase on July 17.
Current MyRapid cards, which are not TnG-compliant, cannot be used for the MRT as they are not compatible with the latest ticketing system procured for the MRT project.
The normal MyRapid card holders can migrate to the MyRapid TnG cards at all Rapid KL customer service offices at LRT, Monorail and bus rapid transit stations, except at the Abdullah Hukum LRT station.
Prasarana group communications and strategic marketing development head Lim Jin Aun said they were processing 3,500 generic MyRapid cards and 2,500 concession cards daily.
“But the numbers are tapering off as more change their cards,” said Lim.
