Terengganu MB to seek dissolution tomorrow

It will be the ninth of 12 states to dissolve the state legislature to pave the way for a general election.

KUALA TERENGGANU:
Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman will seek an audience with Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin tomorrow to obtain consent to dissolve the state legislative assembly.

The Menteri Besar’s office said the meeting would take place at Istana Syarqiyyah, Kuala Terengganu and had been moved forward from on Wednesday.

Parliament stands dissolved from yesterday, paving the way for a general election.

Terengganu has eight parliamentary seats with four seats each held by Barisan Nasional and PAS. BN won 17 out of the 32 state seats, PAS (14) and PKR (1).

When Ahmad Razif receives the Sultan’s consent, it will be the ninth state to dissolve its legislature.

The Election Commission has said it was awaiting formal notice of dissolution from all state assemblies before deciding on dates of nomination and polling for joint parliamentary and state elections.

In Kuantan today, the Election Commisison confirmed receiving the instrument of dissolution of the Pahang state assembly signed by the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Menteri besar Adnan Yaakob had announced the dissolution of the state assembly yesterday.

Pahang has 42 state seats. In the 2013 general election, BN won 30 seats, DAP (seven), PAS (three) and PKR (two).

However, Kuala Semantan assemblyman Syed Hamid Syed Mohamed later left PAS to join Parti Amanah Negara.
