The cousins are said to be reluctant to give up their state seats.
According to a source, this is one of the reasons behind the delayed announcement of DAP candidates for the 18 state seats.
“There are many potential candidates who can fill the seats currently held by Nga and Ngeh,” the source said.
FMT understands the national party leadership has yet to intervene, hoping the matter can be resolved by the state leadership.
In the 2008 and 2013 general elections, Nga won the Taiping parliamentary seat. He also won the Pantai Remis (2008) and Kepayang (2013) state seats.
Meanwhile, Ngeh won the Beruas parliamentary seat and Sitiawan state seat in both elections.
Former DAP national chairman, the late Karpal Singh, had said that with the exception of Penang Chief Minister and party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, the party must practise the one-seat, one-candidate policy.
Karpal had said that in the early days, there were not enough candidates to represent the party.
Since 2008, Lim has contested and won the Bagan parliamentary seat and Air Putih state seat.
Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen and Negeri Sembilan head Anthony Loke Siew Fook also hold two seats.
The same goes for Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, her deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and several Sabah and Sarawak Barisan Nasioanl leaders.
Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir, Perak MCA chairman Dr Mah Hang Soon and Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin are reportedly expected to contest two seats in the coming election due to “strategic reasons”.
