Choose party over candidate, says ex-Perak MB

Tajol Rosli Ghazali says he would have supported Dr Mahathir Mohamad if the former prime minister had been contesting on a BN ticket.

IPOH:
Former Perak menteri besar Tajol Rosli Ghazali has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters to place the coalition’s interests above that of the candidates in the coming election.

Tajol, who was menteri besar from 1999 to 2008, said Umno and BN were more important than any individual.

“I’ve come to Tambun not because (the BN candidate for Tambun is) Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah, but because he is contesting on the BN ticket.

“If (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad was contesting on a BN ticket for the Langkawi seat, I would have gone to Langkawi to show my support for him, but Tun is contesting on the PKR ticket,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Ahmad Husni has held the Tambun parliamentary seat since 1995. He will face Perak PPBM chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Perak Ulama Council deputy chief Muhamad Zulkifli Mohd Zakaria in the May 9 polls.
