PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has denied allegations by electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 that it manipulated the 14th general election (GE14) to allow certain parties to win.
Its chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the EC had carried out its duties with transparency and fairness.
“The EC never interfered in any matters, including the counting and tallying of ballot papers,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Hashim said the voting process had been handled by 259,000 election staff appointed from among the public, and was witnessed by agents appointed by the candidates or contesting parties.
He added that the results, which were in Pakatan Harapan’s favour, and the smooth transition of power, were proof that GE14 had been conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
He said the EC was willing to give its full cooperation to prove there had been no manipulation or wrongdoing during the voting process.
