Death prediction by Annuar shows Umno hasn’t changed, says Khairuddin

More criticism following Umno leader's remarks welcoming more by-elections.

PETALING JAYA:
One of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s biggest supporters has lashed out at Umno’s Annuar Musa over his comments hinting at the prospects of a by-election in Langkawi, where the 93-year old leader is the MP.

“Do these Umno leaders think they are God, and can predict another’s passing? They forget that Umno and Barisan Nasional fell because they were too arrogant,” said Khairuddin Abu Hassan, the former Umno division leader best known for his role in bringing up the 1MDB issue with foreign authorities.

Annuar said he welcomed more by-elections to test the Pakatan Harapan government’s support, following the death of two PH assemblymen in Selangor.

A by-election has been called in Sungai Kandis following the death of its incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei. Meanwhile, DAP’s Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng died in a car crash last Friday.

Annuar predicted that the Sungai Kandis and Balakong by-elections would not be the last.

“I believe after this, God will decide on more by-elections, I don’t know where, Langkawi or where else,” Annuar had said.

Khairuddin said by-elections make no difference to Umno.

“Even if there were more by-elections, can Umno and BN win them? They have been condemned by the people.”

PPBM leaders including deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, Supreme Council member Tariq Ismail and Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu have also criticised Annuar.
