PETALING JAYA: A Sarawak MP today urged Works Minister Baru Bian to sack his political secretary following reports that the aide had allegedly used his position to gain support from local PKR party leaders in Pahang.
In a Facebook post, first-term Julau MP Larry Sng said Baru, who is the Sarawak PKR chairman, should do so immediately to clear “the good name of his office and ministry”.
Sng, who recently joined PKR, said the party should not have this issue hanging over its head as an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would take time.
“We have a state election in two years and our message must be clear, we are fighting corruption and we are not in cahoots with corrupt officials,” he said, adding that the party has been fighting corruption and cronyism for two decades in the opposition.
Sng went on to suggest the Selangau MP hire a Sarawakian as a political secretary as it could help serve Sarawakian interests better.
“Surely there must be capable Sarawakians in the party who can fit that role,” he said.
Last night, PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim said he would speak to Baru over the MACC report lodged against his aide.
Anwar said he would seek an explanation from the Sarawak PKR chief as the party took a “serious view of such transgressions.”
