KUALA LUMPUR:
Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) are to review and offload non-strategic assets as part of the government’s cost-cutting drive, the finance minister’s political secretary Tony Pua said today.

Pua said Khazanah, as one of the stakeholders and key government-linked companies (GLCs), and PNB will be reviewing their stakes.

The ministry will also look at non-core holdings and non-strategic assets to the government to explore their full value, he said during a panel discussion at the “Malaysia: A New Dawn” conference here today.

Also on the panel were former international trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz, PPBM policy and strategy bureau chairman Rais Hussin and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Pua said the ministry would work with the private sector on how these assets can be disposed of orderly.

“This does two things. It creates greater participation of the private sector and raises money for the government,” he added.
