Najib pokes fun at Kit Siang’s rapid-fire press statements

Former prime minister Najib Razak slams works minister's remarks on tolled roads, saying BN would have been flayed if a similar remark had been made.

PETALING JAYA:
Najib Razak has slammed the works minister for saying Malaysians could continue dreaming of having toll-free roads, saying had such a statement come from a minister in the previous administration, it would trigger a series of press statements from DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.

“Lim Kit Siang would have issued at least 10 press releases to criticise the Barisan Nasional and would somehow drag me into it by using ‘kleptocracy’ a few times,” he said referring to the DAP supremo’s penchant for churning out press statements.

The former prime minister was commenting on news reports that Works Minister Baru Bian told the Dewan Rakyat members of the public can only keep on dreaming about having toll-free roads.

Baru, who is the Selangau MP, reiterated Putrajaya’s policy of collecting tolls until the country’s finances improved.

He said this in response to Ahmad Fadhil Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas) who asked if Malaysians should stop dreaming about having toll-free roads after Pakatan Harapan had promised to abolish tolls in its manifesto prior to the May 9 polls.

Najib said PH should not belittle voters just because it could not fulfil its election promises now.

“If they can’t abolish tolls as promised, they should at least reduce the rates.”
