Jho Low’s St Kitts and Nevis passport deactivated, says report

St Kitts and Nevis Observer says the decision was made by Prime Minister Timothy Harris' administration earlier this year 'out of abundance of caution'.

PETALING JAYA: The West Indies island of St Kitts and Nevis has deactivated the passport of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, weekly publication St Kitts and Nevis Observer reports.

In a report published earlier this week, it said the administration of St Kitts and Nevis prime minister Timothy Harris made the decision in June this year after Putrajaya announced that it was seeking to arrest Jho Low.

“Jho Low became an economic citizen of St Kitts and Nevis under the Denzil Douglas-led administration in 2011, but has never at any time entered the country,” it added.

Jho Low was recently indicted by the US Department of Justice for conspiring to launder billions of dollars to pay bribes.

The weekly said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had announced on June 8 that Malaysia was seeking to arrest the businessman, who was believed to be residing abroad.

“Prime Minister Timothy Harris’ administration took the decision, out of an abundance of caution, to deactivate Jho Low’s St Kitts and Nevis passport through Interpol in June,” said the news report published on Tuesday.

On June 15, Jho Low had his Malaysian passport cancelled by the Immigration Department at the request of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

The Immigration Department said it believed Jho Low was using the same name in his St Kitts and Nevis passport.
