Sarawak recently announced it would impose a 5% sales tax on petroleum products beginning January 2019.
But Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said Sarawak’s decision to do so will not affect Petronas and the market.
Meanwhile, Shafie said the state government would impose a 5% tax on fishery products it exports in order to control the supply of the products in the local market.
He added that marine products were not only marketed in the state, but also abroad, but it will not generate any revenue if no tax was imposed.
