Umno leader chides Ibrahim Ali over remark on Indian ministers

Umno deputy youth chief Shahril Hamdan says the Perkasa leader was wrong to blame P Waytha Moorthy for causing tension among the races.

Umno deputy youth chief Shahril Hamdan says everyone, regardless of race or political affiliation, has a role to play in keeping the country peaceful.
GEORGE TOWN:
An Umno leader has chided Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali over the latter’s claim that an increase in the number of Indian ministers in the Cabinet had caused tension among the Malays.

Umno deputy youth chief Shahril Hamdan told Ibrahim that he too could be causing tension by making such a remark.

Shahril said everyone, regardless of race or political affiliation, had a role to play in keeping the country peaceful.

Yesterday, Ibrahim condemned Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy for blaming the police for supposedly being slow to respond during the fracas at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25 last Monday.

Ibrahim also urged Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to reduce the number of Indian ministers in the Cabinet as it was disproportionate to the Indian population which stood at 7%. He said having two full ministers from the Indian community was sufficient.

“It’s one thing to ask Waytha to resign but it’s something else to demand for Indian ministers to be reduced and claiming that ((Waytha) had caused tension between the races,” Shahril tweeted today.

At Perkasa’s annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Ibrahim also said Waytha’s comments had led to a politician from India to assume that there were deaths in the Seafield temple fracas last week.
