A Star Online report said the PSV training module is capped at RM200 and e-hailing drivers can apply for the licence at driving institutes or e-hailing operator driving centres approved by the department.
Upon approval of the licence, RTD said e-hailing operators would have to display a special sticker issued by the e-hailing operator.
RTD said vehicles less than three years old used for the e-hailing service must also change their registered usage code from an individual private vehicle to e-hailing private vehicle.
“This is in line with the law stipulated under Section 12(2), Section 12(3) and Section 12(4) of the APJ 1987,” it added.
Drivers using vehicles more than three years old would have to send their vehicles to Puspakom centres nationwide for an inspection before changing the vehicle usage code.
RTD confirmed that the enforcement of this new law for e-hailing drivers will begin from July 12.
Earlier, the Malaysian E-Hailing Drivers Association had expressed concern over the lack of clear guidelines for them to apply for the PSV licence and undergo training.
