Cops nab Penang man who challenged mufti to a fight

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from Penang over a WhatsApp video threatening Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.

Perlis police chief Noor Mushar Mohd said the man, who works as a clerk, was arrested at his apartment in Batu Uban here by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department just after midnight

Noor Mushar told FMT that police have obtained a four-day remand order to carry out an investigation for criminal intimidation under the Penal Code, as well as for misuse of internet services under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The man allegedly posted a five-minute video condemning Asri and accusing him of insulting Hinduism.

He also challenged Asri to a fight, before giving out his mobile phone number.
