Yapeim boss suspended over threat to punish PH voters
A video had shown director-general Abibullah Samsudin urging staff to support Barisan Nasional in the May 9 polls last year.
KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) has suspended its director-general Abibullah Samsudin, pending an investigation into a speech in which he warned staff against voting for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in last year’s election.
Yapeim chairman Mohd Daud Bakar also announced the appointment of senior director Parihah Hasan as acting D-G.
“During the suspension, the investigation committee will request that he be present to give information and assist the investigation into the claim,” he said.
Abibullah was earlier seen in an undated video shared on social media, in which he urged staff not to vote for PH.
“I will check with the Election Commission all Yapeim staff, I will check one by one where you voted and who you voted for.
“If there are those who vote for Pakatan Harapan, you are not fit to work in Yapeim,” he was heard saying in the clip, adding that he too would be axed by the new government.
Daud had confirmed to FMT that the man in the viral clip was Abibullah.
Earlier, when asked about the matter, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Fuziah Salleh had ruled out action against Abibullah.

“We have to be fair to them and give them a chance to prove themselves in terms of performance. We cannot punish them for not being loyal to PH before,” she told FMT.
