PETALING JAYA:
Police are tracking down an express bus driver suspected of driving dangerously after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Alor Gajah police chief Ahmad Abu Bakar said a video clip showed the driver reclining his seat and using only one hand to control the steering wheel.

“Initial investigations suggest the incident happened at Km196.1 of the North-South Expressway southbound when the bus was travelling from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.”

Ahmad said the driver’s behaviour could adversely affect his control of the vehicle, endangering the safety of passengers and other road users.

In a statement, Billion Stars Express said the bus driver has been suspended with immediate effect, and stressed that it would not compromise on any action that could jeopardise public safety.

The company said it received a complaint about the incident yesterday, after which it immediately launched an internal investigation.

The driver was instructed to report to the office to assist in the investigations and undergo a drug screening test, but he failed to show up.

“We wish to apologise for any concern caused to passengers and the public,” the company said.

“We are committed to improving operating procedures, including stricter monitoring and continuous training for all drivers.”

Ahmad urged those with information to contact investigating officer Nurul Salina Rosli at 011-25435507 or the nearest police station.
