Cops to question Ramasamy, rep in Penang over reports by Naik

The DAP duo are among five individuals alleged by preacher Dr Zakir Naik of defaming him.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy (left) and Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy will be questioned by federal police on Wednesday.
PETALING JAYA:
Federal police will question Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy in Penang on Wednesday over reports filed against them by controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik.

This was confirmed to FMT today by Ramasamy.

“The statements will be recorded in response to the two police reports against me and one police report against Satees by Zakir Naik,” Ramasamy said.

FMT understands that the two DAP leaders will be questioned separately on Wednesday morning.

An officer from Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will be present to question them.

CID chief Huzir Mohamed previously said his officers will call five individuals by this week to assist in investigations.

Besides Ramasamy and Satees, the others are Human Resources Minister M Kula Segaran, former ambassador Dennis Ignatius and Klang MP Charles Santiago.

Naik had claimed the five had made defamatory statements against him and wanted police to take action under the Penal Code and Sedition Act for defaming him and instigating racial disharmony and hatred among Malaysians.

This came after he was accused of casting doubts on the loyalty of Malaysian Hindus, and questioning the position of the Chinese community in Malaysia.

Naik has apologised for any misunderstanding over his statements, claiming that these had been taken out of context with “strange fabrications” added.

Ignatius and Santiago both told FMT they have not been approached by the police yet to confirm a date for questioning.

FMT is attempting to contact Kula for comments.
