KUALA LUMPUR:
Police today announced that they will be reopening investigations into the death of Dutch model Ivana Smit, 18, as a murder.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department chief Huzir Mohamed said this followed a decision by the Kuala Lumpur High Court to dismiss a ruling by the Coroner’s Court, which had earlier said she had died due to a misadventure.

“We were instructed to reopen investigations into the cause of death under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman this evening.

Huzir added that a few witnesses will be called in to give their statements. These witnesses may have been called before, he added.

On Dec 7, 2017, Ivana was found dead at CapSquare Residence in Kuala Lumpur after falling from a condominium unit on the 20th floor, owned by American couple Alex Johnson and Luna Almaz.

Police initially classified the death as sudden death but reopened the case when her family suspected foul play.
