AYER KEROH: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali arrived at the party’s youth and women’s wing congress to cries of “Hidup Azmin” from his supporters.
Over 200 people, many of whom were wearing “Team AA” T-shirts, cheered when the economic affairs minister arrived at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
For the next four days, the party’s top leaders will gather at MITC for the PKR national congress, which has been mired in controversy even before it started.
This included Azmin having his invitation to launch the youth wing congress retracted and rumours of a parallel congress being held in Kuala Lumpur.
But after a meeting yesterday between the party’s top leaders, namely PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin, it seems that the congress will go on without a hitch.
One Azmin supporter believes this is the case and that all the issues between Anwar and Azmin have been settled for good.
Azali Mohamed, from the Kota Melaka division, said he always believed the party’s internal issues would be settled before the congress.
“Now, all the party’s problems are behind us.”
Another supporter, Manja Lara Yahya, was just glad that Azmin had come.
She said if Azmin did not attend, they may not have attended, too.
“We are Azmin’s supporters. If he is not here, we will go back.
“Azmin is a better leader than Anwar.”
Merlimau PKR member R Kanagasingan said he hoped the party can iron out its issues.
He said he came to show his support for Azmin because he believed he can bring the country and economy forward.
