PKR must remain PH’s ‘Rock of Gibraltar’, says Azmin

AYER KEROH: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali has made a rallying call to the party’s members, saying PKR must remain Pakatan Harapan’s “Rock of Gibraltar”.

In his opening speech at the PKR Youth and Wanita congress, which has been mired in controversy even before it began, Azmin said PKR, which has the lion’s share of parliamentary seats in PH, must continue to work hand-in-hand with its coalition partners in developing the nation.

Previously, Azmin had his invitation to speak at the congress retracted but this was reinstated after a meeting with top leaders, including PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

“It is most crucial that at the end of the day, coalition partners must remain united in support of the vision and the bigger picture,” he said at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).

“In this regard, PKR must be the vanguard and the driving force to fulfil this.”

Azmin said it was inevitable that the party would face challenges and see its share of differing views.

But, he said, it has been proven that all these challenges can be overcome in the spirit of unity and mutual respect.

“I am confident that if we hold true to idealism and the principles of our struggles, any differences, problems or crisis can be overcome.

“We will emerge stronger than ever,” he said, adding PKR’s unity was being tested and that the real test lay ahead when they face 7.8 million new voters in the next general election.

Azmin said each member had a role in developing the party and that PKR was not built by one person.

“Tonight is sacred because it is a new start.”
