
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first case was a healthcare worker who experienced respiratory difficulties on July 13 before testing positive six days later.
“As of noon, 61 individuals from the cluster have been tested, with five testing positive, while the remainder tested negative,” he said at a press briefing here this evening.
In Kuching, Sarawak disaster management committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said authorities had yet to identify the source of the infections.
He said eight clusters were still active in the state – the construction site cluster (three cases), engineering company cluster (three), Mambong cluster (five), health centre cluster (three), Jupiter cluster (three), Stutong market cluster (three), Kuching jetty cluster (two) and the Sentosa cluster (six).
Uggah also said that although the committee had not decided to make the use of face masks compulsory, the people were advised to wear them in public areas.
Sarawak recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases today, including those from the new Kuching hospital cluster, bringing the total so far to 619.
The new cases consisted of seven in Kuching, two in Samarahan and one each in Bau and Lundu.
